If you already have a list of Department Codes and names, or Job Codes and descriptions, you can save time by simply importing the list into RealTime Advanced. RealTime can quickly and easily import Department or Job data using the following Comma Delimited format, or you can create an excel file and simply fill in the first two columns.
Preparing the List: Use the format: “Code”,”Description” (Note: the file you create for importing should not have a header or title, just the data itself)
Example:
“123”,”Department 123”
“124”,”Department 124”
Importing the List: Department and Job items can be imported from a text file by clicking the "Import" button on the "Edit Departments" or "Edit Jobs" screen.
The import requires only 2 fields, separated by a
comma, consisting of the Code in the first field and the Description in the
second field.
The import file can be created using Notepad or any
text editor, Excel or another spreadsheet program, or any other way you
wish. If you use a spreadsheet program, you will need to save the file as
a "Comma Separated Values" type (CSV).
For text files, if the description has a comma, then it MUST be
enclosed in quotes. (see the second example, below). If you're using a spreadsheet, the spreadsheet will automatically add any needed quotes when you save as CSV, so you don't need to add quotes when using a spreadsheet (see third example, below).
