To adapt an existing installation on a local machine
to a server location you will need to move a couple files and then reconfigure
the “Directory” listing referenced in the Company Setup screen within
RealTime.
Create a folder on your network server to be the "Data Root Directory" and
be sure it's accessible to the RealTime users (the users should have FULL
RIGHTS)
Copy your Company3.MDB and RealTime.LIC files from the original “Data Root
Directory” on the local machine to the newly created “Data Root Directory” share
on the network server.
Copy your “Data Folder” to your newly created “Data Root Directory” share,
by locating and right-clicking the “Data Folder” in it’s current location and
selecting [Copy] … then go to the newly created “Data Root Directory” share on
the network server and right-clicking within the folder and complete the move by
selecting [Paste]. (Hint: The “Data Folder” is referenced within the Company
Setup window as "Terminal/Clock Name." The “Data Folder” is where several
important files are stored so it’s imperative to get the entire
folder). Example: Existing Folder:
C:\RT3\SUNDIAL1 New Location: file://SERVER/DATAROOT/SUN_DIAL
Start RealTime
At the Navigation window select [Setup] and then [Options] to open
the Options window. Here you will want to change the current “Data Root
Directory” to reflect your newly created “Data Root Directory” on the network
server. Example: Local “Data Root Directory” example
= C:\RT3 Network “Data Root Directory
example = file://SERVER/DATAROOT
Exit and re-open RealTime
At the Navigation window select [General] and then [Company] to open
the Company Setup window
Modify the Company Setup "Directory" field to match the new location
(in the example used here this would be: file://SERVER/DATAROOT/SUN_DIAL)
Click the [Select] button
Test by exiting the program and renaming your original “Data folder” and
restarting RealTime. You should still have all your Employees and Data
available.
