Realtime Advanced: Moving RealTime to a new workstation
Article Details

Last Updated

Q: We are getting ready to set up a new accounting computer and need to know what steps we need to take to migrate RealTime 3.5 to the new workstation and any procedure to verify a successful migration.

A: Realtime can quickly be "moved" by making a backup of the local C:\RT3 directory.  Copy the backup over to the new workstation so that is now has an RT3 folder on its local C: drive then simply install the Realtime 3.5 software on the new workstation.
(note: if you are adding a workstation to your network installation then search this knowledgebase for "network install" and review those steps)

What this does is install over the RT3 folder and auto detects your settings and license details making the move form one workstation to a different one a quick and painless effort.  It is likely the communications method you use to talk to the clock may have been specific to the computer that was previously used.  If your clock does not communicate over the Ethernet Network then you will need to confirm comm port settings in your Realtime Communications.
