RSI Maintenance

And Its Uses

You will start RSI maintenance by click the Icon for it in the Start/Programs/RSI programs group.

Once open click on the "
Manage Lists" button.

Now click on the Channels Tab.

Click Add to start configuring a new Channel. There are three type of connections; Modem, Ethernet, and Serial. The first example will be Serial:

Click the 'Add' button to create a new channel.

In the dropdown menu for Channel Type pick serial.

Name the Channel, we just named it Serial here in our example.

Select the correct Com Port which the clock uses to connect to the PC.

Finally pick the speed to communicate at as with a modem connection, most modern installs can communicate at a rate of 9600. The speed is limited by length of your serial cable so if you have an exceptionally long connection (200 ft or more) you may have to adjust the communication speed down.

Clickthe 'Save' button and you now have a serial channel.

RSI Modem Channel Setup:

As with the Serial set up you will pick the 'Channel Type', Name the Channel, and pick a com port. The com port to choose will be the one your modem uses. Also you will have to enter in the phone number you clock is at; remember to place a 1 at the beginning of the number if the call is long distance.

You do have to not place dashes in the call number.

Click 'Save' once the settings are defined and now you have a Modem Channel.

RSI Ethernet Channel Setup:

As with setting up the other two types of Channels use the Channel Type drop down to choose Ethernet.

Now name your channel, type in the 'IP Address' the clock uses on the LAN (get with your IT if you do not have the IP address), and fill out the 'IP Port' which will be 3001 for the Hand Punch clocks.

Click save and now you have set an Ethernet Channel for your clocks to reached on.

Here you have seen the three basic channel, Serial, Modem, and Ethernet, be created. You will use these channels to set up RSI Maintenance to communicate with a specific clock in the next section.

Clock Setup RSI Maintenance:

Now using the channel or channels you have made we will configure RSI maintenance to communicate with a specific clock by clicking the 'Clocks' tab.

Pick a name which will be meaningful to you for the clock (HP2000, HP4000, etc) here I simply called it MrClock. Next will be to enter the clock ID, it can be found at the clock by pressing the 'NO/*' button10 times until you see clock information on the LCD screen, continue to press the NO button until you see the clock speed displayed on the LCD screen twice. Usually it will be 9600 9600 then a digit, normally a 1 or 2 but may be more if you have more than one clock. If you are using an internal Ethernet card in the clock then the ID will always be 0.

Next choose the correct Channel you created which reflects the method of communications with the clock, Serial, Modem, Ethernet.

Finally type a location which is again meaningful to you such as Front Entrance, Shop Floor, etc. and click save.

You now have set up RSI Maintenance to communicate and adjust you Hand Punch clock.

Managing Your Clock with RSI Maintenance:

Click on the 'Manage Clock' button and you will see the following screen.

Now choose your clock form the dropdownmenu and click connect.

You are now connected to the clock and can do Set Upfunctions.

On the 'Setup Tab'we can adjust clock time and date, make settings for Daylight savings and time format, as well as send a custom menu to it if we are not using Time and Attendance mode.

Here in the 'Clock Time' section you can send the time from your system, Set Current button, then the 'Send' Button or you can enter in the time date manually and use the Send button if your system is not on the same time the clock is.

Here under the 'Clock Settings' we can have the clock track departments, set the format from 12 hour to 24 hour, have the clock use Daylight Savings as well as use the standard Time and Attendance mode.

After making the settings you wish click on 'Send' in the same section to set your clock.

In the 'Clock Menu' section we can send a customized menu file for the clock to use as input prompts. If a custom menu is used Time and Attendance mode must be unchecked in the Clock Settings section to insure that punches form Employees are not read twice into the database.
